A couple interesting stories, but this collection has not aged well. Too many of the stories are derivative of The Shattered Chain or Thendara House; too many are knee-jerk feminism with no real thought behind them. Worse, knowing how MZB's husband, Walter Breen, was a convicted pedophile who preyed on SF/F cons -- with MZB knowing about it & helping him -- and how MZB abused and molested her own two children (one of whom, Patrick, is mentioned in a story preface as "good for taking out the garbage")...that adds horrible subtext and outright hypocrisy to Breen's contribution (his analysis of the Amazon Oath) & MZB's own story & notes.
By the time I got thru MZB's second tale here -- where an abused girl, molested by her own stepfather, takes shelter with the Amazons & learns to fight back -- I wanted to vomit. MZB gave her own kids no such chance; she participated in the abuse of countless others (the court records of MZB stating this under oath are posted & public knowledge). Knowing that her assistant Elisabeth Waters (who also has a tale in this volume) also aided/abetted & ignored what was going on...gah.
The only good thing about this is that it's a free rental, so MZB's estate (she left everything to Waters, nothing to her children) doesn't profit from this.
